An impressive collection of 11 cars met at the Hanging Gate pub above Macclesfield for the start of Scatter 081. After signing on and receiving a bit of Map 109, along with 118 & 119, it was clear all the clues would be in the challenging lanes in the Cheshire hills and Staffordshire moorlands. A compact route with a lot of clues would keep all the crews busy for the evening.
Throw in the central location of the ‘time’ bonus points clue and picking a route was not easy (exactly how a scatter should be, and despite the most points being visited by any one crew being 13, 26 of the 28 points were visited by at least one crew.). We ended up doing a cloverleaf pattern, starting out with a brief run north through Macclesfield forest for a couple of points, before heading south to do a loop around Bosley cloud. It was around here we spent a fair bit of time out of the car tracking down the answers for a couple of points (worth the effort as they were both double points clues and we got them right). However Duncan did slip in the mud at one and had muddy trousers to show for his efforts. Then called in to the ‘time’ bonus clue and headed up in Staffordshire for a collection of points.
Once the results were announced we were delighted to see we had the only maximum score and were declared the winners. Many thanks to Russ Smith & Dan Harrison for an excellently organised event with spot on plots and well located clues, even if a couple of them took a bit of finding.
