Get a Taste of Motorsport: KDMC’s Free Motorsport Taster Day

If you’ve ever wondered what grassroots motorsport really feels like — up close, friendly, and accessible — the Motorsport Taster Day hosted by Knutsford & District Motor Club (KDMC) is an event well worth attending. Created as an open and welcoming introduction to club motorsport, this free event invites newcomers, families, and enthusiasts to experience a variety of motorsport activities in a relaxed, informal setting.

Whether you’re curious about competing, volunteering, or simply learning more about how motorsport works at club level, the Taster Day is designed to show just how approachable and inclusive it can be.

What’s Happening on the Day

The day is packed with interactive displays, demonstrations, and hands-on opportunities that give visitors a genuine insight into motorsport and club life.

💥 Autotest Demonstrations

Autotesting is a low-speed motorsport discipline focused on car control and precision, using cones laid out in a course. On the day, visitors will be able to watch demonstrations — and in many cases, even try it themselves using a standard, road-legal car.

🏁 Getting Started in Motorsport

Club members will be available to explain how to take your first steps into motorsport, including guidance on obtaining an RS Clubman Licence, which is commonly required for entry-level competition.

🧑‍✈️ Marshalling Explained

Motorsport relies heavily on volunteers, and marshalling is one of the most rewarding ways to get involved. The Taster Day offers an introduction to what marshals do, how to get trained, and how this role fits into different types of events.

🚗 Club Activity Stands

Dedicated stands will showcase the wide range of activities run by KDMC, including:

  • Rallying

  • Autotest and Production Car Trials

  • Marshalling

  • Social Events

Club members will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions, share experiences, and talk through the different ways people can get involved.

Facilities such as toilets, refreshments, and clear signage from the main A556 will be available to make the visit easy and comfortable.

Family-Friendly Activities and Extras

The Motorsport Taster Day is designed to be welcoming for all ages, not just drivers.

🗺 Rally Navigation Sessions

Visitors can try their hand at rally navigation with guidance from experienced navigators. These sessions introduce map reading, route plotting, and timing — with simplified activities available for children, including rally-themed colouring.

🚑 Motorsport Recovery Display

A display vehicle from Bulldog Motorsport Recovery will be on site, giving visitors a close-up look at the specialist equipment used to recover cars safely during motorsport events.

Why Attend a Motorsport Taster Day?

For many people, motorsport can seem complicated or out of reach. Events like this are designed to change that perception. The Taster Day allows you to:

  • Ask questions without pressure

  • Try activities before committing

  • Meet friendly, knowledgeable club members

  • Discover roles beyond driving, including volunteering and organising

It’s a practical, hands-on way to see how club motorsport really works — and how accessible it can be.
